I like alleys. They are the backdoor to everything.

We came across the work of Japanese designed Monde on our Twitter feed the other day. The latest work are bookshelf dioramas that open a portal to Japan between your books. Born and raised in Tokyo, Monde takes inspiration from the narrow, often twisting back alleys that run between buildings in this dense, energetic city.
The bookshelf dioramas are made with lights to give a soft glow that emanates from your shelf and attracts the eyes of the curious. A mirror, cleverly placed in the back at an angle heightens the feeling of the eye, disappearing down the long, narrow canyon.
I was honestly surprised!
Premiering the work at Japan’s Design Festa, word quickly spread thanks to Twitter. “It was the first time that the work had echoed so far,” Monde tells Buzzfeed Japan. Fans from United Kingdom, the States, and Canada reached out, begging to buy one
We did as well… stay tuned and we’ll let you know if/when we get one.
