Tokyo Mon Amour

As luck would have it, we came across a cache of old photos (but no invitations to parties) taken during a photo trip to Tokyo in May, 1999. There were over 10 rolls of film, shot in days before digital cameras were the norm, and after a lengthy scanning and slight retouching session, we selected a number to share with our friends.

Tokyo is a paradox. A vibrant, energetic, and exciting city, which at the same time can be peaceful and contemplative. The mass of people around you is both overwhelming and comforting. On one corner you are overtaking by the noise and chaos, and around another you find a quiet street leading to a quieter shrine. And when it rains, as it is true with so many cities, Tokyo becomes beautiful in its melancholy.
